When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost. John 19:30 · KJV
When Jesus had received the vinegar He said, "It is finished," and He bowed His head and gave up the ghost.
This was not the sigh of a defeated man. In the language of the day the word was written across bills that had been paid in full. Everything the Father had given Him to do, every prophecy, every demand of the law, every debt of ours, was completed.
We add nothing to a finished work. We come with empty hands and receive.
Today, lay down the effort to earn what Christ has already secured, and rest in what He has done.
