What they did
Trusted in the LORD, removed idolatry and restored temple worship. When Assyria threatened Jerusalem he prayed, and the LORD delivered the city; in sickness God added fifteen years to his life.
Why it matters: the purpose of their role
He prayed that all the kingdoms of the earth would know that the LORD is God alone, and God answered; he is in the line of Christ (Matthew 1:9-10).
He trusted in the LORD God of Israel; so that after him was none like him among all the kings of Judah, nor any that were before him. 2 Kings 18:5 (KJV)
